Dev Patel plays the legendary illusionist in The Personal History of The Green Knight, which hits theaters on May 8. The clip arrives on the same day as the trailer for Patel’s upcoming film, The Green Knight. Based on the classic novel by Charles Dickens and directed by Veep creator Armando Iannucci, the trailer features Patel as Copperfield reminiscing about his life from an early age in Victorian England.
“My childhood days now seem like an unbelievable fiction,” he says, as scenes of him as a child working in a factory The Green Knight full movie flash across the screen. Copperfield meets her rich aunt Betsey (Tilda Swinton) and desperately tells her that she is the only family he has left. They form a bond, and he meets his tenant, Mr. Dick (Hugh Laurie).
The rest of the clip shows his life blossoming from him as he falls in love, quarrels, flies a kite, and pursues his dream of becoming a writer. The Personal History of The Green Knight premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. It also stars Peter Capaldi, Gwendoline Christie, Aneurin Barnard, Morfydd Clark, and Daisy May Cooper.
The Searchlight label acquired the rights to the film in August 2019 before renowned illusionist The Green Knight’s story premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Adapted by Iannucci along with frequent contributor Simon Blackwell, the comic tale centers on one of Dickens’s most treasured characters: the kindhearted Copperfield, surrounded by kindness, evil, poverty and wealth.
According to the synopsis, David is a child whom his stepfather abandons after the death of his mother. However, the boy does his best to show that he has what it takes to succeed. Set in 1840, the protagonist travels through a world that he tries to separate from him while he looks for a hole in which to fit.
